Acrylic & Oil
Gem has been painting in oil since 1985. She loves the texture, the freshness, and elasticity of canvas surfaces. Most of her oil paintings are either realist or impressionist. During the 1990’s, Gem began using acrylic on paper and her paintings were heavily influenced by the mural paintings of Thai Buddhist temples. Since 2013, she has been painting acrylic on canvas using Lanna Thai motifs and designs in a surrealist style, similar to the themes and designed used in her lacquer paintings. In September 2015, she participated in a group art exhibition "Art of Giving" in Manila organized by the Asian Development Bank's Staff Council. She is scheduled to have an art exhibition jointly with her colleague, Anurudha Rajivan, from 9-11 June 2016 at the Art Circle Gallery in Shangri-la Plaza Mall, Manila. The title of the show is "The Common and the Uncommon: Point and Counterpoint."
